About BOOM Charlotte
From the Founder, Camerin Watson
"Boom Charlotte is an artist-led performance and visual arts showcase of contemporary and experimental works. We seek out art that is not a part of the mainstream and put it on the main stage. We believe in the explosive power of art to unite and strengthen our community.
To unite the community, we focus on collaborating with all kinds of community organizations. These collaborations bring in artists and audiences that were not initially included in Charlotte’s art scene. We are all about expanding what is included in Charlotte’s art scene.
Our inclusivity is reflected in the artists we showcase at our annual BOOM Festival. Every Spring we bring a diverse line-up of artists to a walkable location with a mix of indoor and outdoor venues, and we put on a unique arts festival.
At the indoor locations we host ticketed fringe art shows. This is the experimental work that exists on the fringes of pop culture. At the outdoor venues we host contemporary art shows that are free and easily accessible to the public. At BOOM you will experience music, dance, poetry, comedy, visual art, film, and more. It is truly an explosion of many art styles.
After the annual BOOM Festival, we host smaller events pooling from the talent at the festival. Our initiative BOOM Echoes brings the vibe of the BOOM Festival to communities that are art deserts. We identify communities that do not regularly access art and we bring the art to them. With our BOOM@ initiative we showcase BOOM artists in venues throughout Charlotte with a goal of growing the audience for these artists and the BOOM Festival.
BOOM is an arts organization created by artists for artists and the art community as a whole. We are intentionally reaching across the cultural divisions to bring together a team of creatives with a vision who reflect the diversity of our city."
Arts and Crafts Tent by Ampersand Arts
Dive into a world of creativity with our Japanese Fish Collage and Printmaking experience! This exciting activity begins with choosing from four beautifully pre-cut paper fish, each ready to be transformed into a colorful masterpiece. Kids can create dazzling fish scales using pre-cut pieces or design their own with glue sticks, allowing for endless artistic possibilities.
The fun continues with traditional Japanese printmaking. Using four different rubber fish stamps and black paint, participants will press their designs onto their collaged fish, capturing the essence of a centuries-old art form. The process is quick, so your child can take their artwork home immediately, though we’ll also have space available for those who prefer to let their creations dry.
But that's not all! Our tent also features ocean-themed sensory bins for additional hands-on fun and a large, recycled 3D art "wall" inspired by Louise Nevelson’s assemblage art. This interactive wall is ready for collaborative coloring with sidewalk chalk and markers, turning recycled materials into a vibrant community canvas. Come and explore, create, and make a splash with art!
Open Hours for the activity tent: 11am-7:30pm
